A little about me

My name is Tyler Moody, and I am an electrical engineer by day and value investing nerd by night. After reading Warren Buffett’s shareholder letters around 2016, I have been fascinated by analyzing businesses and reading financial statements. In 2017 I bought my first individual stock and I have been working on improving my process ever since. Later, in 2020 I started a blog to publicly track my portfolio and post some investing thoughts. Now I want to publish my content on Substack in an attempt to be a fraction as good as some of the great investment writers on this platform.

What you can expect

The goal is to write down some of the analysis that I already do in an effort to crystalize my thinking, and to improve my investing process. Hopefully others will find some value in the analysis that I share. My intent is to write 3-4 posts per month. Currently, I am thinking my content will look something like this:

  • Capital Allocation Snapshots: This is a series where I look at a company’s cash flow statement to get a high-level overview of how they reinvest their profits, or return the capital to shareholders.

  • Company Valuations: If I come across a company that appears undervalued, I will do a write-up estimating its fair value and whether or not it would be a candidate for my portfolio.

  • Monthly Roundups: At the end of the month I will have a catch-all post of interesting articles I came across, books I’m reading, stocks I bought and sold, etc.

  • Quarterly Portfolio Updates: Each quarter I’ll post the positions in my stock-picking portfolio, along with my gains and losses.

Additionally, from time to time I may publish other value investing related content. I am sure I will write about Berkshire Hathaway, Warren Buffett, Charlie Munger, etc., but I will try not to regurgitate the same thing everyone else posts about them.

For now my Substack will be free of charge, but if this thing becomes decently popular I am interested in monetizing it.

Stay up-to-date

With my blog I would always forget to send out email notifications to my subscribers. Now with Substack, you just have to click the subscribe button and you will automatically get my latests posts in your inbox.
